Jeppesen is in the cockpit for the Air Race Classic
In addition to monetary donations to non-profit organizations, Jeppesen provides our products and services to aviation-related groups every year.
One such organization is The Air Race Classic, Inc., a non-profit dedicated to encouraging and educating current and future women pilots, increasing public awareness of general aviation, demonstrating women’s roles in aviation and preserving and promoting the tradition of pioneering women in aviation.
This year, the 37th anniversary race included 105 racers, 50 of whom flew the race for the first time. There were also 15 university teams from 13 colleges and universities. Each team is comprised of two women pilots who alternate flying legs during the race. Each year a different route is planned for the race and generally includes smaller general aviation airports.
That’s where Jeppesen comes in. For the past several years, we provided paper trip kits for each team including airport diagrams, enroute charts and departure and arrival procedures (SIDS and STARS) for each of the designated flyby airports. In 2013, the racers started at Tri-Cities Airport in Pasco, WA and 2128.30 nautical miles and eleven airports later ended the race at Drake Field Airport in Fayetteville, AR. The race begins on Friday and ends a week later on Sunday.
For over three decades of competition, camaraderie and courage, the women pilots of the Air Race Classic have inspired the aviation community and Jeppesen is proud to have been in the cockpit to ensure a safe and successful trip.
