Jeppesen team builds bikes for kids
Twenty employees in the Customer Service & Support team recently teamed with Wish for Wheels, a local non-profit, to build twenty-five bicycles for kids at a Denver elementary school.
Wish for Wheels’ goal is to give as many kids as possible brand new bikes and helmets. It brings communities together, gives many of us the chance to give back and most importantly puts a whole lot of smiles on a whole lot of faces. With one in five children living in poverty in the Denver area, a brand new bike is only a dream for many.
The bike build was part of a team building exercise. Participants were divided into teams of three. One member was blindfolded and the others had to talk him through the steps to unpack the bike and get the various pieces in the right order for assembly. After the bike was quality checked, the teams had some fun. Grown men on children’s bicycles racing through the parking lot was quite a sight.
The finished bikes were then loaded on a truck and transported to a local elementary school that participates in the Colorado UpLift program. The children and their parents were waiting as the truck pulled in. The volunteers helped the kids chose their bike and were fitted with a bike helmet. A quick lesson in bike riding made the experience complete. There were smiles on the faces of everyone involved!
