Jeppesen give-away - Think Global Flight announces recipients

Jeppesen and Think Global Flight are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2014 Jeppesen Give-Away. The recipients’ are eligible to choose from one of two Jeppesen Training Packages valued at approximately $500 - $900. Jeppesen’s generous support helped ‘fuel’ the excitement created as the Think Global Flight Crew travels the globe promoting education and inspiring students. The project has succeeded in generating more than $900,000 toward the 1 million needed to accomplish the mission.

Fifteen military families were able to enjoy a special holiday because of the generosity of Jeppesen employees. For the third year, families at Fort Carson military base in Colorado Springs, Colorado were “adopted” by teams and departments of Jeppesen employees who opened their hearts and wallets to provide a little extra holiday joy for the children of our soldiers.

Digital Transformation – what to do with all that paper?

Digital technology is here to stay at Jeppesen. The transition away from paper charts is evidenced by the reduction in the number of printed sheets over the past several years. For 2013, we printed approximately 650 million sheets, down from the previous mark of 850 million, which was down from a high of one billion sheets per year. Paper to Digital is real.

Montreal team assists homeless in their community

Employees at the Jeppesen Montreal office are teaming up to assist the homeless members of their community as cold weather approaches. Their efforts will support The Old Brewery Mission. This organization began as a soup kitchen in 1889, but now offers four levels of services for the homeless population; emergency, transition, housing and special services for women.

Jeppesen supports Colorado communities affected by flooding

Jeppesen employees opened their hearts and wallets to support the victims of the disastrous flooding that affected Colorado in early September. Thankfully, none of our employees or Boeing colleagues suffered any serious injuries and no significant damage occurred at our office locations due to the record-breaking rainfall. But the flash floods destroyed more than 1,500 homes, damaged hundreds of miles of roads and infrastructure and cost upwards of a billion dollars by some estimates.

Taking to the sky with some very special kids

Whether it’s the desire to share our passion for flight, or the need to show compassion for our community, the Challenge Air program for kids and friends provides Jeppesen an opportunity to give back to others in a rather exceptional way. Challenge Air Fly Day, held at Centennial Airport in September, allowed 70 special needs children and youth to experience the thrill of flight with free 30-minute airplane rides flown by a group of local volunteer pilots, including members of Jeppesen Employee Flying Association (JEFA).

Montreal team plays tug-of-war with Air Canada jet

Do Jeppesen employees really enjoy playing tug-of-war with jumbo jets? Apparently so. Eleven teams from the Denver office pulled a FedEx Boeing 757 in early August and several weeks ago, the Montreal team pulled an Air Canada Boeing 767. While pulling airplanes is a great way to have fun, the real purpose of this show of strength is to benefit Special Olympics.

Boeing recently predicted that airlines will have to hire 498,000 pilots — about 25,000 each year — to support all the new aircraft they are expected to add to their fleets over the next two decades. They will also need 556,000 new maintenance technicians, or about 28,000 a year.

275 Jeppesen employees, making up 11 individual teams, competed this past weekend in the inaugural Special Olympics Colorado Plane Pull at Denver International Airport. The object? To pull a FedEx Boeing 757 weighing 164,000 pounds 12 feet in the least amount of time.

Build-a-plane journal part III: Showing off at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh

Opening day at AirVenture 2013 was electrifying. The Jepp Tent this year was designed to be very inviting. We have demo stations to show all the latest technology starting with JeppFD 2.1 (Pre-Release version) and JeppFD VFR. We showed off the new iPad cases with the look and feel of the classic ring Jepp binder. Once again, this year we have a “Red Bird” simulator in the tent (very cool).
